Here is October’s Framed Art insert!
October celebrates: Pear Day, Pizza Day, Popcorn Day, Read a Book Day, Bat Appreciation Day, Pumpkins, and Halloween! For the Read a Book day, I used a digital download. I was able to use MDS and pull up a square punch, then fill it with the Storybook DSP right at the square that says “Reading is fun do do”. Then I was able to size it to the size needed for my insert and then copied and pasted it so I had multiple images on one sheet and then printed it out using my inkjet printer to use for this project. The popcorn square was created using the Build a Cupcake punch and coordinating stamp set along with the Trio Flower punch (R). I sponged the flowers with So Saffron to look like buttered popcorn. For “Pear Day”, it was perfect to show off our new Perfectly Preserved stamp set with coordinating framelits die that matches the stamp set. The “pepperoni” on the Pizza square is from the DSD Orchard Harvest using the Petite Pennants Builder punch. And, of course you can’t forget to have a cute ghost, using the Owl punch! And, although spiders totally creep me out, spiders with glitter are totally acceptable, so all my spiders have a touch of glitter to them. For the Bat Appreciation day, I used a handheld circle punch to punch two holes in the bat’s head to have eyes where the Daffodil Delight shows through to give it glowing eyes. The owl with the witches hat was too much fun (thanks Lynn Pratt!). I incorporated several products from the Holiday Mini Catalog. AND, I have been waiting to be able to use that cute stamp set Cottage Window. The recipe is listed below, along with a tutorial on how I did the pumpkin square. I wished I could say that I thought of that myself, however, I saw that idea a few years back and although the image was for a card, and I do not know who originally did it, but it always stuck with me as it had such a neat effect, so I wanted to incorporate it for this month’s insert except a smaller version of it. Be sure to check out the simple tutorial on how you can do this too!
Here is the 8×10 insert:
Here is the larger 12×12 insert:
Here is the Bat Appreciate Day square:
Under the flap of the bat:
Here is the Pear Day, Pizza Day, Cute Girl Ghost, and Popcorn Day squares. The ghost is actually the owl punch with the little feet cut off and flipped upside down to create the ghost. The “box” for the popcorn square is from the Cupcake Builder punch and coordinating stamp set.
Here is the Read a Book Day square created by My Digital Studio using Storybook DSP digital download:
The cute owl was totally cased from Lynn Pratt! The trick in creating the witch’s hat is the small oval punch and just the head portion of the owl. Sponge white craft ink around the edges and then apply the oval to the whole punched out owl, then turn the half punched out head portion slightly so that would be an ear creating the top of the hat – so clever!
And now the stinkin’ cute pumpkin square:
This is how I created this look. First stamp your spiders (from Out of a Limb). Then to not creep me out, I glittered them!
Next, using the 1-1/4 inch circle punch, punch out SIX circles on a 2″ strip of Tangerine Tango:
Next, using the 1-3/4 circle punch, center it over the circle you already punched out like this:
It will give you circles like this:
Next, fold them in half:
Then using Tombow glue so they hold tight, apply a little glue on your first folded circle:
Now, apply one circle to this one, then on that one, apply some glue, and repeat, stacking and attaching them to each other. Then apply some Tombow glue to the ends and glue them over your stamped spiders so the image will show through.
For the top, I took a 1/4 inch strip of Certainly Celery about 4 inches long, folded it in half and then using scissors, just curled the paper just the same as if you were curling a ribbon strip which then curled the ends of my paper and then I just adhered it to the top of the “pumpkin” with a glue dot.
I hope you found this tutorial helpful in re-creating this square!

I really love this framed October decoration. So nice.
Thanks so much Sandy! They are really FUN to do. If you could only see it in person, they have so much depth with a lot of pieces being popped up on dimensionals. Thanks again for your kind words!
